About us

Our promise
We will:

  • Take your symptoms seriously
  • Explain the relationship between your symptoms and endometriosis
  • Develop, with you, a personalised treatment plan which takes into account the extent of disease and your wishes for pregnancy
  • Tell you if your pain is not due to endometriosis
  • Use laparoscopic (key hole) surgery for the majority of operations
  • Base all our discussion on proven methods of treatment
  • Discuss the benefits, risks and limitations of all treatments

How we work

You will be seen by Sanjay Vyas at your first visit. He will begin your care with a detailed assessment of your symptoms. We ask you to fill in a questionnaire, which has been developed specifically for women who have endometriosis. This means that we do not miss out any important parts of your story and also to audit the results of your treatment. You can download the questionnaire to complete in your own time and bring it with you. It is also helpful to have details of any previous operations you have had, so please also bring any letters that have been written about your endometriosis if you have them.

Sanjay will also perform an internal examination and a transvaginal ultrasound scan to look closely at your womb and ovaries.

Following this assessment, he will discuss the options available. Depending on your symptoms, severity of endometriosis and fertility wishes, you may also need to see other members of the team. If necessary, Sanjay will be joined by other members of the team.

If surgery is the best option for you, we will discuss the likely benefits, risks and recovery in detail. You can download a patient information leaflet for patients considering laparoscopic surgery.

We perform surgery at the Bristol Spire Hospital, one of the biggest private hospitals in the Southwest. They provide state of the art equipment for laparoscopic surgery, giving us High Definition images of the surgical area. We take lots of photographs of the pelvis during surgery and use these to explain the operation to patients afterwards. We also record the findings at diagnostic laparoscopy on DVD, and use this to explain the extent of disease in post-operative consultations.

If needed, Sanjay performs the surgery with Alan or Frank, if the bowel or urinary organs are involved. In extremely complex cases, all three surgeons operate together.
