Mr Sanjay Vyas MD FRCOG, Consultant Gynaecologist

Sanjay qualified from the London Hospital Medical College, University of London, in 1985 and is a nationally recognised expert in endometriosis and complex laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery.

Having specialised in abdominal and vaginal surgery, he was appointed Consultant Gynaecologist at Southmead Hospital in 1994. The bulk of his surgical work now involves keyhole surgery. He's also a recognised expert in pelvic ultrasound scans.

Sanjay studied the latest surgical techniques for treating endometriosis at the Endometriosis Institute in the United States. Here he observed acclaimed surgeon, David Redwine, and has brought his techniques to the UK.

He is actively involved in clinical research in endometriosis and is a recognized teacher of advanced laparoscopic surgery in gynaecology.

HIs workload consists almost entirely of laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery, for endometriosis, hysterectomy, ovarian cysts and other conditions. The majority of his patients have been referred to him for this expertise.

Sanjay is Specialty Director of the Department of Women's Health at Southmead Hospital, and has been an elected member of the Councils of both the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, and the Bristish Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy.

Mrs Hazel Abbott, Practice Manager

Hazel has been a medical secretary for more years then she cares to say. She does all the little things that make the biggest difference – arranging surgery, answering questions about insurance and chasing the doctors!

For patients who are coming from a distance, Hazel also has information about where to stay in Bristol. Most patients speak to her over the phone, or meet her in person.

Mr Valantine Akande PhD MRCOG, Consultant Gynaecologist

Valentine is a Consultant Gynaecologist and infertility specialist who works closely with Sanjay, on the NHS at Southmead, and privately. His PhD thesis and research publications have included the effect of endometriosis on infertility.

Valentine undertakes assessment and treatment for women who have fertility problems in addition to endometriosis.
